At Montana Creations, we believe that craftsmanship carries a spirit - the spirit of the horse, the spirit of the artisan, and the land.
Each belt, hat band, bridle, key fob, barrette, beaded, crocheted piece, leather or wood is handcrafted by a select group of Montana artists using time-honored techniques that celebrate both Native American and Western traditions.
Genesis Biochar / Compost Mix
In regenerative farming, the goal is to improve soil health, boost agricultural productivity, and create a sustainable system that benefits both the environment and future generations. Genesis Biochar, when combined with Genesis Compost, provides a unique approach to soil enhancement that includes the benefits of humic acid. Compost naturally contains humic acid, a powerful substance known for improving soil health, increasing nutrient availability, and enhancing water retention. By using Genesis Biochar in conjunction with compost, you get the best of both worlds: the immediate benefits of compost’s nutrients and humic acid, paired with the long-term nutrient retention and microbial habitat provided by biochar.
One of the most significant benefits of both compost and biochar is their ability to improve Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC). CEC is a crucial measure of soil’s ability to retain and exchange essential nutrients, such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, and other micronutrients. Soils with high CEC are better at holding onto these nutrients, making them more available to plants, while reducing nutrient loss due to leaching. Genesis Biochar and compost both increase CEC in complementary ways.
Compost contains humic acid and other organic compounds that naturally enhance soil’s ability to hold and exchange nutrients. It improves soil structure, promotes microbial activity, and increases nutrient retention. Biochar, on the other hand, is a highly porous material that improves soil aeration and structure, but its high CEC also helps it hold onto nutrients and water, reducing the need for frequent fertilization and irrigation.
When used together, Genesis Biochar, Genesis Compost create a synergistic effect, improving the soil’s CEC in both the short and long term. This ensures that nutrients are not only immediately available to plants but also retained in the soil for extended periods, providing sustained fertility and improved plant growth over time.
The synergy between Genesis Biochar and the Genesis Biochar, Compost Mix offers a sustainable solution for regenerating soil, promoting healthy plant growth, and supporting environmental stewardship.
This mix is made in and shipped from Montana.
Genesis Biochar is a member of the International Biochar Initiative and US Biochar Initiative.
How To Use Genesis Biochar, Compost Mix
Mix directly into your soil at a ratio of 5% to 10% to a depth below the root zone. It is also popular with landscapers for use as a mulch. Remember that the Biochar in this mix will not breakdown for hundreds of years so conditioning your soil with Genesis Biochar will help create the long term balance of carbon, nitrogen, micro-organisms and nutrients that plants need to thrive.

We create handcrafted art with heritage, heart, and purpose.
At Montana Creations, we produce high-quality, one-of-a-kind goods that reflect the richness of Native American tradition, Western craftsmanship, and personal transformation.
We specialize in:
Hitched horsehair belts, hat bands, bridles, key fobs, and barrettes
Hand-crocheted hats, scarves, sweaters, and blankets
Beaded jewelry and accessories inspired by Native design
Hand-tooled leather wallets, cuffs, and straps
Carved wooden home goods and rustic decor
Each item is crafted one at a time — by hand — using traditional techniques passed down through generations. But what we do goes far beyond artistry.
Most of our pieces are made by Native American artisans from various tribes who are currently incarcerated at the Montana State Prison. For them, this work is more than creative expression — it’s a powerful step in rehabilitation, healing, and cultural reconnection.
By combining cultural tradition with personal restoration, we turn raw materials into meaningful, lasting works of art.
We don’t just make beautiful things. We help people reclaim purpose. We help culture live on. And we offer you something truly unique to give, to wear, or to keep.
