More than artMost of the products featured on Montana Creations are handmade by inmates at the Montana State Prison. Many of these men have little or no outside support. Prison jobs pay very little, and after deductions for obligations like fines, fees, and child support, many are left with almost nothing to meet basic needs.
That’s where we come alongside them.
How we helpWe do not produce these items. We partner with the artisans by helping market and sell their work, so they can earn honest income through creating rather than taking.
Inside prison walls, a hobby is more than “something to do.” It can become a pathway to real change—teaching patience, attention to detail, planning, cooperation, and delayed gratification. It helps men stay focused on something positive and builds practical, transferable skills that support healthier choices.
Why it mattersProceeds from sales can help provide:
Resources for essentials while incarcerated
Funds for phone calls and staying connected with family
Support for responsibilities like child support, fines, and fees
A stronger financial foundation to help re-enter society
Most importantly, this work helps restore dignity. It replaces a hopeless identity with confidence, purpose, and the belief: “I can create value. I can contribute. I can live differently.”
When you purchase from Montana Creations, you’re not only receiving something beautiful and unique—you’re helping support transformation, preserve cultural artistry, and strengthen families.
